Well, here we go again. The 2nd regular session of the 124th South Carolina General Assembly will convene on Tuesday, January 11, 2022.
The first iteration of the senate version of the South Carolina Compassionate Care Act (S212) was introduced and read for the first time on January 10, 2017. On March 29, 2018 the bill, with amendments, was favorably voted out of the Committee on Medical Affairs, then left to die.
The second iteration of the senate version of the South Carolina Compassionate Care Act (S366) was introduced and read for the first time on January 15, 2019 and referred to the Committee on Medical Affairs, and again left to die.
The third iteration of the senate version of the South Carolina Compassionate Care Act (S150) was pre-filed on December 9, 2020, and referred to Committee on Medical Affairs. It was introduced and read for the first time on January 12, 202. On March 31, 2021 S150, with amendments, was favorably voted out of the Committee on Medical Affairs, and here we are on January 11, 2022 wondering if the legislators in South Carolina will abide by the overwhelming will of the people, and give this legislation a favorably vote on the senate floor ASAP.
